Why am I doing this?
Hi, my name is Ari. I'm a Chilean designer living in Hamburg since 2019. Mármol came to life after my first daughter was born and in the middle of the pandemic. I needed some time to myself, to connect and understand this new Ari who was now a mom. I felt lonely and far away. I wanted to capture what I was feeling somehow. I tried watercolors and painting, but finally it all clicked when I learned how to make soap. I realized that while making soaps I could connect with myself and that the mix of scents and colors connected me to my origin, Chile. It took me about 7 batches of soap until I got a good one. My first soaps were awful. I never used them. But the most valuable part of this was the process to get there. The biggest inspiration to create Mármol has been my country, Chile, because when you live far away you treasure where you come from. From the geography and nature of Chile have come the colors and designs. The name is inspired by the famous Catedrales de Mármol located in Patagonia chilena.
Mármol is more than soap, it represents a piece of Chile.
A precious land called Chile ✿
Every time I visit Chile I feel more in love with it. Its beauty is absolutely stunning.
Connecting with my roots made me realize all the beauty that Chile holds and all the immense landscapes that are yet to be discovered.
From the North to the South you can find such a different geography that delights any human being who visits it. Finding the driest desert, deepest forests, blue coast, high white mountains, glaciers, islands, geysers and much more. That was the inspiration behind Mármol.
How are the soaps produced?
Mármol soaps are locally made in Hamburg. The soaps are produced by hand in small batches using the Cold Process technique, blending different vegetable oils and butters with Sodium Hydroxide, which is responsible to the Saponification process, a chemical reaction that give life to a moisturizing and natural solid bar of soap.
Because the soaps are handmade, every design is unique. Even using the same recipe and colors, each soap may differ.
Each soap matures between 4 to 8 weeks after production. After the maturing period, the soaps are ready to be use. Therefore, they have to be stored in a cool and dry place.
Don't unwrap your soap until you will start using it. This way you will prevent loosing the scent of your soap.
If you want your soap last longer make sure to keep it safe on a soap dish or soap tin, away from water puddles, and they will last a lot longer than liquid soap as you will only use exactly what you need.
Use your Mármol soap within 6 months. Use it on hands and body only.
